An Old School Thank You

Vintage Thank You Cards Handmade Typewriter sweet nothings designvintage thank you handmade typewriter

Most of the stationery that I design has me sitting in front of a computer so for a change of pace I wanted to create something completely by hand. Also I wanted a good excuse to put my new vintage typewriter to use! I made these for my sister who wanted an original gift for a friend who is having a baby.

I always have fabulous scraps of paper left over from other projects which I hoard because I can’t stand to throw them out. So this put some of those little gems to good use and I also wanted to take a stab at some more handmade stamps. The end result is unique and sweet. If I didn’t end up making less than minimum wage on these suckas I would do more completely handmade items, but a girl needs to sleep.

You should try some of your own! Really, cut out pics, phrases and make your own cards. The cool thing about these types of cards are the little imperfections that make them perfect!

Yeah Baby!

DIY Onsies Baby girl sweet nothings designOver two weeks ago my lovely sister had a baby girl. Jaelyn Marie, the sweetest baby ever! Seriously when I met her my uterus skipped a beat! I’m so jealous of my sister that she gets to snuggle this sweetie whenever she wants! For a baby like her I’d be willing to re-open shop but then my husband gently reminded me of 2am feedings and daycare. But seriously folks I’m absolutely smitten with her! I joke with my sister and tell her not to be alarmed if her baby goes missing that she’ll be at my house. Anyways… I channeled Madonna Circa – Lucky Star days and whipped up these onsies for her. I used fabric paint, a pencil eraser, shish kabob stick and sequence fabric to create these adorable necklaces. I know she’ll make Madge proud when she’s rockin’ these in the nursery. I also did some fancy bibs because this little princess deserves to spit up on a bib as cute as her!

Did you miss me? I missed you. Sorry for the wait. We’ve been crazy busy in our family lately. . . So you’ll see me catching up on all my projects in the next couple of days. I had these completed by couldn’t find the time to post. The reason for this delay? My family took an amazing trip to Disney world courtesy of our lovely parents Mel & Terry Fors – shout out! The experience was beyond anything I can describe there was laughter, tears, tears of laughter and plenty of inappropriate bodily functions had by all! Inside joke, but it was an amazing trip. Before we left I decided to make some t-shirts for all the ladies going on the trip. The first one was made for my daughter Lilly – she’s 13 and too cool for anything too Disney. So I used sticker letters to spell out I heart you Mickey and sprayed bleach on this gray tank top. It’s a cool effect but very stinky so be sure to use gloves and do it in the laundry room or in my case I sprayed it in the bath tub. The next was for my little Fancy pants Gabby. I used heat bond (an amazing thing) and a black sequence fabric to create this adorable sparkly Minnie silhouette! The next was mine – I wanted mine to be graphic and urban. I used the same sticker method but rolled on fabric paint to create this shirt. For my Sophie I took influence from my hubby and created a spray painted look for her using fabric spray paint. My lovely mother in-law received a red shirt with a black sequence Mickey Silhouette creating the classic Mickey shirt. For my sister in-law Alyna I used the same heat bond and fabric technique to create a giant Minnie Bow t-shirt. Finally the cute topper to this project was making 2 Minnie headbands for the littlest ladies. To all my girls, you rocked these looks and I love you all xoxo!

Potato, Patato

Valentines potato stamps sweet nothings design shari fors A little handmade love note on Valentine’s day! I broke out the potato stampin’ skills from grade school and made these valentines to send out for the upcoming heart day! I like the way the paint feels on the cards and how it looks distressed. However part of me wishes I had crisper lines but I think it was the paint I used. Something to consider the next time I potato stamp! I used paper doilies from the dollar store (Holla @ the dolla store!) for the envelopes. A sweet little touch that makes this card a little more adorable! Smooches and Happy Valentines day!

ALL SKATE!

Invitation party planning winter birthday party glitter blue sweet nothings design shari forsFor my 5th project I was asked to plan a party for a friend’s little girl’s birthday. She’s having an ice skating party so I went in 2 different directions a glittery glam skate party and a vintage winter skate party. Starting with the glittery glam skate party.

A. Sparkly party hats

B. Pom pom snow balls as decor

C. Tutus that each girl will make to skate in and take home

D. Rock candy for the kids that decorate the table

E. Cupcakes in glitter linings

F. Snowflake table runner

G. Finally a glittery invite designed by me to go with the party.

vintage skate party invitation sweet nothings design shari fors For the second option I created a vintage ice skating party mood board…

A. Cotton Snowball garland hanging everywhere

B. snow pine cones as part of the decor on the tables

C. DIY snow globes that all the kids will make and take home

D. Melting snowman cookies

E. A craft paper vintage invite by yours truly

F. And finally cake pop snowballs.

I can’t wait to create the final party. Stay tuned to see which party they went with!

Happy New Ideas!

Project 52 sweet nothings design DIY craftsSo I’m back betches! And mama has some big plans for the new year! Of course I have all of the same resolutions as everyone else…lose weight, get healthy, wake up earlier, be kinder, volunteer, clean more, get out of debt and save money. However, I’ve decided not to declare any of those things. Instead I’ve decided to focus my energy on something that I’ve been thinking about for awhile. This year my goal is to complete 1 project per week. Hence the brilliant title Project 52! Ok it’s not brilliant but whatevs. What makes me declare such an ambitious thing? I’m so glad you asked! I have so many ideas that I don’t take the time to actually sit down and complete. Then the ideas are just left swimming around in my head, being sad and uncreated. They want to be created and I’m just the girl to do it. Also I’m tired of saying to myself I can make that! So this year I’m putting my money where my mouth is and doing it!

PS. Do you think I can count this post as project #1? HA! Fine, project #1 coming soon!

Fall Flowers

Flower Hair Clips Headbands sweet nothings design shari fors

Last weekend I whipped up some cute hair clips with my sister. They’re layered with fabric, tulle, feathers and gems! After we created each one we’d have a new favorite! They are a so cute pinned to a low bun or pinned to your cardigan. I almost can’t part with them. But for you my good friend, I will. What girl doesn’t love flowers? If you’d like one please email me to get your very own! With a little man power my online store will be up sooooooon!

Feather Headbands!

Feather headband invitation design Shari fors wedding hair accessories Happy Friday! Last weekend I went to the Shakopee Pow Wow with my family. I love going, the dancing, the music, the food, the family and the costumes! The amazing costumes! Beads, feathers and neon oh my! I’ve been wanting to do accessories with feathers forever and seeing all the great feather details in the costumes sparked the inspiration for these head bands. I think they’d be so adorable for a wedding! My girls love them and I’m sure Gabby will rock a different color every day. She’s fancy like that.

Cute Quickie

recycled pencil cups sweet nothings design shari fors crafts tin cups desk office invitations partyI made these adorable pencil cups for my daughter’s desk out of cans. It’s a super simple way to get organized and do a little somethin’ somethin’ for the earth! If you want more sophisticated look use left over fabric or use them for your next party to hold utensils. Happy Canning!

Totally 80’s Bash!

So, long time no blog. I missed you! I’ve even aged since the last time I blogged! Today is my birthday. Born 1980, so what better way to celebrate being a child of the 80’s than having an 80’s themed party! I invited my friends to get physical and go to ZUMBA in the club with me. Dressed in awesome 80’s gear of course! So here’s a little how-to on getting your Olivia Newton John on! Yes that’s my face on Jane Fonda’s body! Some day Jane, some day…I’ll be as fit as you! I also want to give a shout out to the best Zumba instructor ever! Her name is Awbria Simmons and her classes are a blast! Here’s her site http://awbria.com/ if you want to shake it.
